Plan to succeed

Plan to succeedEven the most spontaneous people need to plan ahead. Read on to find out why planning is important to help you achieve success.

It’s nice to be spontaneous sometimes, but if you don’t have a clear goal for your future, you won’t have any control over where you’re going.

Things that you need to plan for include planning what to do after your studies and making steps to ensure you achieve your career ambitions.

Finding a goal

To plan properly, you first need to work out what your goals are.

To do this, answer the following questions. Your goals can be about things other than your studies and career plans.

They could also include the type of lifestyle you would like to have in future: perhaps you would like to be earning lots of money, living somewhere hot or achieve a world record.

  • What are my dreams for the future?
  • What steps can I take to achieve my dreams?

Planning

Now it’s time to put together your plan. To be effective, draw up a one-year and a five-year plan.

  • Start with the five-year plan so that you know the long-term goals you are working towards.
  • Then draw up a one-year plan, listing the essential steps needed to ensure that you are on the way to achieving your five-year goals.

What next?

Once you’ve written up your plans, keep them somewhere visible, like a noticeboard.

This way, whenever your morale is low or your motivation flags, you can remind yourself why you’re studying or why you want to get good marks.
