How many university students cheat?

Jan 05, 2016

How many university students cheat?Almost 50,000 students have been caught cheating in the last three years, according to research by the Times newspaper.

11 universities reported more than 1,000 cases of plagiarism - passing off other people's work as your own. This is often a problem for new students, because it's taken much more seriously at university than at school: not only can you expect a mark of zero for your work if you are caught, you could be suspended from your course.

Although simply copying material from books or the internet is becoming less common, many students are tempted by companies that write essays in return for cash. These might seem safer because they can't be detected automatically, but not only are they often easy for markers to spot, many essays bought online aren't as good as their price tags suggest.
